services

I work with clients to address a variety of issues including:

  • depression

  • anxiety disorders

  • eating disorders

  • spiritual crisis and/or doubt

  • relationship difficulties

  • marital dissatisfaction/conflict

  • parenting concerns

  • grief/loss

  • career dissatisfaction

I see pre-adolescents, adolescent, adults, couples and families in my practice…

Tweens! I love working with “tweens” ages 10-12. For this age group, I begin with a parent intake session and then typically follow a pattern of meeting with your child for 3 consecutive sessions with every 4th session including a parent consultation. I will incorporate developmentally appropriate interventions such as activity therapy, sand tray, and expressive arts therapy based on the needs and personalities of each child.

Adolescents If only I had a therapist during this stage of my life! The teens years are packed with obstacles related to identity and social acceptance and these obstacles have only been amplified by social media and smart phones. I am passionate about providing teens with a safe space where they can process their insecurities and struggles as well as gain insight and tools to help them thrive. I have plenty of experience working with teens who are ambivalent about therapy and/or initially hesitant to engage. My work with adolescents follows the same pattern I described with pre-adolescents: 3 consecutive sessions with your child with every 4th session including a parent consultation.

***Parents, if you are considering seeking counseling services for your child/teen, please feel free to schedule a 15 minute phone consultation with me. As a parent myself, I get how important it is to feel comfortable and confident when entrusting your child into someone’s care. I would love to answer your questions and give you a fuller picture of what it would look like for me to work with you and your child. Please know that if I believe that you and your child would be better served by a therapist with a different area of expertise, I will provide you with referrals in order to assist you in getting the help you need.***

Adults I have benefitted greatly from therapy in my adult years and work with adults of all ages. We will collaborate to establish a treatment plan to ensure that you feel that I understand your goals and that you have a clear picture of how we will use our time together (including specific interventions) to help you meet those goals.

Couples Long-term relationships can be one of life’s greatest joys. They can also be painful and lonely. Many of us do not enter marriage with the tools we will need to nurture and sustain a healthy relationship. My approach with couples is directive and solution-focused. We will work together to uncover destructive patterns in your relationship in order to replace unhealthy mindsets and behaviors with healthy ones. When couples are willing, I find it can expedite progress to give “homework” assignments to be completed in between therapy sessions.

Families Here’s how it typically works with family therapy: one person comes in to see me as a client. As we work together, the client realizes that it could be really helpful to bring a family member in in order to strengthen that relationship and/or to seek repair from hurts that have been building up. I am all about this kind of work. I naturally played the role of mediator in my own family growing up and have been honing these skills for years through my counseling education and work with clients. If you already know that you would like to start with family work, I would love to begin that process with you.

Eating Disorder Group Therapy I spent two years working at an ED treatment center where I primarily facilitated group therapy at the partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient levels of care. I was also responsible for facilitating a weekly recovery support group and saw firsthand how vital the group experience is for facilitating healing. Furthermore, when clients discharged from our treatment center, they often reported finding the drop-off in support to be a jarring experience. I have a passion for providing an affordable option for continued support for clients who find themselves in this position. Come walk through your outpatient recovery process with a group of fellow journeyers! These are groups of 3-5 clients that meet weekly. I will work to coordinate your care with your individual therapist, dietitian and psychiatrist. Also, please know that these groups are open to anyone looking to find support in their eating disorder recovery — no need to have received prior treatment. Therapeutic Approach

I would describe myself as warm, compassionate, down-to-earth, and insightful. My approach to therapy is informed primarily by Adlerian theory, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and adaptive information processing theory (AIP), which is the theory in which EMDR is based. I am fully trained in EMDR and enjoy incorporating this modality into my work with clients.
