About ME

My passion for counseling was sparked amidst my own personal experience with clinical depression and anxiety. Therapy played an essential role in my recovery, and as a result I developed a deep respect for the therapeutic process and the field of counseling.

I received my B.A. in Biblical Studies from Biola University in La Mirada, California and then earned my teaching credential from the University of Dallas. My first career was in education: I taught 3rd and 4th grade in the elementary setting and then middle school language arts and history for a combined total of 7 years. While I loved developing relationships with my students, inspiring them in their learning, and establishing a positive classroom environment, it became increasingly clear to me that my primary interest was in supporting my students emotionally. I wanted to spend more of my energy focusing on helping others find hope, healing, and necessary skills for building healthy relationships and a fulfilling life.

I received my Masters in Counseling from the University of North Texas where I interned at the Child and Family Resource Center (CFRC). At the CFRC,  I counseled children, adolescents and adults utilizing various interventions such as talk therapy, activity therapy, play and group play therapy, parent consultations, family therapy, sand tray therapy, and expressive arts therapy.  After graduating in 2013, I moved to a private practice setting where in addition to working with children, teens and adults, I also worked with couples. More recently, I had the privilege of counseling at The Center for Discovery (CFD) outpatient eating disorder treatment center, providing individual, family and primarily group therapy. In my 2+ years at CFD, I worked with a team of therapists, dietitians and psychiatrists to provide treatment for adolescent and adult clients at the partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient levels of care. I was also responsible for running the weekly eating disorder support group for program alumni and the community.

There are moments in most every day where I feel a sense of gratitude that I get to do this work. I believe in the therapeutic process and in the inherent worth of every person who comes through my door. I consider it a profound privilege to walk alongside people as they lean into the challenging yet rewarding work of therapy.

When not at the office, I spend most of my time with my husband and our two young children who keep us challenged and entertained on a daily basis. I am a 6 on the enneagram with a strong 7 wing (if you have no clue what this means, then you are normal) and an introvert with strong people skills. I enjoy coffee in the mornings, grocery shopping by myself, reading (mostly counseling books), spending time with friends, nature walks, sleeping in, making lists, reading aloud to our kids, planning family adventures and occasional spurts of attending yoga classes.

I know that finding a therapist can feel overwhelming. It is so important to have confidence in the skills of your counselor along with an underlying sense of comfortability and trust. A strong counselor/client relationship is the foundation from which all therapeutic work is accomplished.
